The focus of School Health Services is to provide care that promotes student achievement and academic success by providing health care that keeps students in the classroom, ready to learn. Our goal is to promote and maintain the health and well-being of all students and staff by:
- managing chronic health care conditions
- providing interventions that return students to class
- reducing and shortening illness related absences
- identifying health related barriers and referring for appropriate care
- providing annual health screenings for vision and hearing
- providing educational materials and instruction in medical and health issues
- promoting a safe and healthy school environment
The school nurse is available each day to respond to student needs, talk with parents, meet with staff, visit classrooms, address individual medical and health concerns, as well as:
- Treatment for acute illnesses, first aid needs and medical crises
- Medication management and administration
- Direct care for children with medical conditions
- Development of health care plans and participation in legally mandated planning and services for individual students
- Enforcement of immunization laws and regulations and Early Childhood Screening
- Health education and consultation to students and staff
