St. Anthony Middle School Team Secures 2nd Place at 2010 World Affairs Challenge

St. Anthony Middle School World Affairs Challenge TeamIn its inaugural year of participating in the World Affairs Challenge, St. Anthony Middle School students competed in last month. Four teams of seventh and eighth graders competed at the World Affairs Challenge on March 6 at Macalester College. The challenge, sponsored by World Savvy, asked students to research the issue of water and propose solutions to be implemented on a local, national and global level.

Congratulations to the following students who placed at the competition: Eighth graders Anna Gustafson, Kelly Morris, Natalya Peterson, Kelly Tappe, and Emily Petersen secured second place in the category of Most Creative Presentation. Their presentation focused on solving the issue of Cholera in Zimbabwe through a mock episode of The View.

Chris Baker (8th grade- 1st place), Sam Kim (8th grade- 3rd place), Thu Nguyen (8th grade- 1st place), and Emily Petersen (8th grade-2nd place) for their presentation of solutions in the category of Best Collaborative Question.

Sylvia Bueltel (7th grade), Molly Jansen (8th grade), Sam Kim (8th grade), Kelly Morris (8th grade), and Ana Sola (7th grade) each won a Rising Star Award. This award is given to students who shine during the presentation at the competition.
