On Thursday, June 10, the Huskies traveled to Midway Stadium to take on the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks in the section final. The Huskies came out of the loser’s bracket and were in a must-win situation. In the first game, Stephen Couillard started on the mound for the Huskies with Steven Wehr relieving him and Nicho Roessler closing the game in the 7th inning. Wehr received the win for the Huskies. Minnehaha managed to score in every inning but the seventh. In the fifth, Wehr put the Huskies on top six to five with a two out single that scored two runs. The Redhawks tied the game in the sixth, but Alex Jenson helped the Huskies answer back by hitting a two out triple that scored two runs putting the Huskies up eight to six. Roessler shut down the Redhawks offense giving the Huskies the win.
In
the second game, Jordan Wiggins went the distance on the mound pitching
eight innings for the Huskies. In the first inning the Huskies got on
top by scoring one run when Couillard took advantage of a wild pitch.
The Huskies scored another in the second on a single by James Rush.
Minnehaha came back to tie the game by scoring two runs in the third
inning. There was no more scoring in the game until the bottom of the eighth
when Roessler got on base
with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jenson then hit a
double to score Roessler and give the Huskies the section title and a
state-tournament berth. The Huskies travel to St. Cloud on Thursday,
June 17, and start the tournament off by playing the first of two games
