St. Anthony Village High School 2009 ACT Scores Highest in Five Years
St. Anthony Village High School (SAVHS) students continued to score above state average on the American College Test (ACT). SAVHS students who took the ACT test and graduated in 2009 had an average composite score of 24.6, this score is the highest of the past five years, 1.9 points higher than the state average and 3.5 points higher than the national average score. ACT tests provide students and prospective colleges and universities with a snapshot of how prepared students are for college-level coursework. The curriculum-based tests measure students’ educational development in English, mathematics, reading and science and SAVHS students scored above the state average in all four subject areas.

For the fourth consecutive year, St. Anthony Village High School has been selected by Newsweek as one of America’s top high schools and, on the 2009 list, was rated 4th in Minnesota.

Dr. Rod Thompson – Superintendent of the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District Advocates for Students, Schools at American Association of School Administrators’ 2009 Legislative Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C.
St. Anthony, Minnesota – Dr. Rod Thompson, Superintendent, will advocate on behalf of the children of the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District at the American Association of School Administrators’ 2009 Legislative Advocacy Conference, April 22-24, in Washington, D.C. At the three-day event, Dr. Thompson and school system leaders from around the country will meet with legislators on Capitol Hill to call for a new agenda for public education. Troy Urdahl Recognized as 2008 Class AA Coach of the Year
Troy Urdahl was recognized and congratulated by the St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board at its February 3rd meeting. Mr. Urdahl was named the 2008 Class AA Coach of the Year by the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Wayne Terry Appointed Principal of St. Anthony Village High School
Wayne Terry was appointed principal of St. Anthony Village High School by the St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board at its February 3rd meeting. Parents and staff, who served on the interview committee, shared their experience of the rigorous selection process and voiced their support for Mr. Terry. Upon the unanimous approval of his appointment by the School Board, Mr. Terry enthusiastically replied, “This is my dream job. I cut my teeth as a teacher in this district and I grew to love teaching and the students. I feel like I’m part of this community. It feels like home.”
St. Anthony-New Brighton School District Receives 2009 Minnesota School Finance Award
Kristen Hoheisel was recognized for her leadership as Director of Business Services by the St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board at its February 3rd meeting. For the second year in a row, St. Anthony-New Brighton School District received the Minnesota Department of Education’s 2009 Minnesota School Finance Award. Since 2003, the Minnesota Department of Education has recognized school organizations that exhibit sound fiscal health and financial management policies and procedures. Dr. Thompson, Superintendent, commended Ms. Hoheisel, “There is a lot of envy for the job Kristen Hoheisel has done for our district.” Ms. Hoheisel responded, “This award signifies that through policy and procedure, we’ve been accountable.”
